TRU-SPEC was established in 1996 by its parent company, ATLANCO (originally founded in 1950 as the Atlanta Army Navy Supply Company). Recognizing a growing market demand for high-quality, reliable military and law enforcement apparel, ATLANCO launched the TRU-SPEC brand to manufacture uniforms that met the U.S. government's "true specifications" using mil-spec fabrics. Over the decades, the brand expanded from core military apparel to serve public safety, EMS, and outdoor enthusiasts, eventually relocating its corporate headquarters to Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
