History & Heritage
The original Springfield Armory was established in 1777 and served as America's primary military arsenal for nearly 200 years. The current Springfield Armory, Inc. was founded in 1974 in Geneseo, Illinois, licensing the historic name. The company gained fame importing the M1A (civilian M14) and producing premium 1911 pistols. Their Croatian-designed XD series launched in 2002, followed by the game-changing Hellcat in 2019.
