Founded in Chicago in 1938 as the Boston Novelty Company, the business initially manufactured leather tags, name plates, and bags. In the 1940s, the company rebranded as Boston Leather and pivoted its focus toward serving uniformed professionals. The brand's modern era began in 1991 when Tony and Geri Valentino acquired the company, subsequently relocating operations to a dedicated facility in Sterling, Illinois.
