In 1526, Bartolomeo Beretta supplied arquebus barrels to the Arsenal of Venice, beginning an unbroken tradition of firearms manufacturing. The Beretta family has maintained ownership for 15 generations. Beretta pistols were adopted by Italy in 1915, and the 92 series became the U.S. M9 in 1985. Beretta USA operates a manufacturing facility in Gallatin, Tennessee.
