Taurus was originally founded in 1939 as Forjas Taurus (Taurus Forge) in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, producing its first revolver in 1941. In 1982, the company established its U.S. subsidiary, Taurus Holdings (Taurus USA), in Miami, Florida, to better serve the North American market. Over the decades, Taurus expanded its capabilities through strategic acquisitions, including purchasing a former Beretta factory in São Paulo in 1980, which provided advanced tooling and engineering expertise. In 2019, Taurus USA relocated its corporate headquarters and manufacturing operations to a state-of-the-art, 200,000-square-foot facility in Bainbridge, Georgia, where it continues to produce and import a wide range of popular firearms.
