The origins of 5.11 Tactical date back to 1968 when pioneering rock climber Royal Robbins created a durable pair of climbing pants with a signature strap-and-slash pocket design, naming them '5.11' after the highest difficulty rating in the Yosemite Decimal System. In 1992, these pants became the official training attire of the FBI National Academy. In 2003, founders Dan Costa and Francisco Morales spun off 5.11 Tactical as a standalone brand dedicated to serving public safety, military, and law enforcement professionals, eventually expanding into a global leader in tactical apparel and gear.
